Vacationers are Welcome

Yes, it’s that time of year again. The weather gets warm, school gets out and people head to the beach!
Just because you’re on vacation does not mean you can skip your workouts. If you are anything like me, vacation means you eat some of the yummy foods you normally avoid and the adult beverages increase. Yes?

Well here is the good news… Body Edge Fitness offers day passes for $12 or week passes for $30.

Are classes more your speed? (You don’t have to think, the instructor tells you what to do in a fun group environment.) Come try Tabata, Yoga, Strength, Core Challenge, Body Fit, Spin, Edge, Zumba or Silver Sneakers for $10 per class.

Personal Training is also available by appointment to focus on your specific needs for $35 per session.

The staff at Body Edge looks forward to seeing you this summer.
If you and and your family come visit us every summer, I can’t wait to see you walk trough the door again on Monday morning!!!  (psst, I’m the pregnant one)  =)

Safe Travels,

Plank Challenge Winners

What an amazing group of athletes we have at Body Edge Fitness! The plank contest was a huge success. Congrats to everyone who participated and improved their time over the month.  But I must say Ray Zetts (81 years old), you are our hero! Ray held the plank on his forearms and toes for 13 minutes and 23 seconds…wow!  Stay tuned for results from our October “Push-ups for Pec” contest to support Breast Cancer Awareness.

Are you sweating this summer???

BANa-ProductBANa was developed by Dr. Benjamin Yoo, who practices in Mt. Pleasant, SC. The product is modeled after a saline IV and is designed to simplify the process of overcoming dehydration, heat exhaustion and cramping – but can also be used to help prevent them!

BANa is manufactured without all of the sugar, high fructose corn syrup, artificial coloring/flavoring and calories you’ll find in other sports/rehydration beverages AND its all natural, as we use Sea Salt, Stevia, and natural cherry juice. BANa has 0 sugar, 0 calories, and 1 carb – It is healthy!

Obviously, the maximum benefit is when severe dehydration occurs.  But 1-2 bottles will keep most athletes/outdoor laborers hydrated all day.  1-2 bottles will also serve as a healthy and effective cure to the common hangover.  Also, a bottle before bed will help with those pesky night cramps many people get.

What is Dehydration?

The science behind it is simple – the body does not have enough of the necessary fluids to adequately function. Dehydration occurs when you lose more fluids than you take in. The treatment for dehydration is to replenish fluid loss.

Illustration of how sodium helps the kidneys absorb water
While there are many different ways for your body to absorb H20, the Kidneys are the most efficient way. The Kidneys actively transport H20 to the rest of your body.

Sodium Fuels Rehydration

Sodium is the key electrolyte used to help the body retain fluids. This is the basis of a Normal Saline IV fluid given in the ER. The only ingredients in a 1 Liter Normal Saline are Salt (NaCl) and Water (H2O) (9,000mg of Salt in 1,000ml of Water). Sodium is the most abundant electrolyte contained in the fluid within the body. When dehydrated, the body sends a signal to the brain, adrenals, and the kidneys. This triggers hormones to be released from the brain and the adrenal gland to let the kidneys know the body needs fluids. During dehydration, through these hormones, sodium is taken from the kidneys through an active transport system. When this occurs, water is passively moved into the body as well. In the kidneys, water cannot be reabsorbed without the active transport of sodium. This is the concept behind IV fluids and BANa.

So Why BANa?

  • 4 Adult BANa’s is comparable to 1L Normal Saline IV
  • Absorption rate into your body is comparable between oral consumption and IV fluids given in the ER
  • Hydration equals Performance – both physical performance, and mental acuity
  • Faster recovery time

Are you suffering from the effects after a night of partying?

The likely culprit: dehydration. When you are hungover, your body gives off the same symptoms as dehydration—nausea, headache, stomachache and cramps. Alcohol is a diuretic, and makes it extremely difficult for your body to reabsorb water and salt.

BANa’s rehydrating properties can help speed up your hangover recovery by allowing salt and water to simultaneously be absorbed into your body. Just 1-2 bottles of BANa after a long night out or first thing in the morning will help ease that throbbing head and overall sense of feeling horrible. Bottoms up!

BANa is now available at Body Edge Fitness!!!

Buy a bottle to try, or buy it by the case for when you head out to the golf course, tennis court, beach, boating or working in your yard.  Know anyone who works outside for a living?  They need this product!

Say NO to chemicals!

Body Edge Takes the Lead on Going Green, Clean and Lean!

thieves cleanerOcean Isle Beach, NC – March 15, 2016 Cindy Black, owner of Body Edge Fitness Solutions, announces the implementation of a non-toxic, plant based cleaning agent to reduce the hazards and exposure to harmful, toxic chemicals for clients of the gym.

To encompass a well-rounded approach to health & wellness, Body Edge Fitness stands behind offering a complete package. Fitness, to include classes, personal training and full gym services, as well as nutrition consultations, and Young Living therapeutic grade essential oils, to include the use of safe cleaning agent, Thieves Cleaner.

The Environmental Working Group has unearthed compelling evidence that hundreds of cleaners, even some of those hyped as “green” or “natural” can inflict serious harm on unwary users. Many present severe risks to those who come into direct skin contact with the cleaning agent, or breathe their fumes. Though many Americans assume government bodies oversee the safety of the multi-billion-dollar household and commercial cleaning products industry, it is largely unregulated. (Information reported from the 2012 EWG Cleaners Database)

There are toxins everywhere in everyday life, and some are harder to avoid than others. However, when it comes to chemicals, cleaning products are some of the top offenders. Often we pay the price of our health in exchange for attempting to clean our daily environment. According to the Organic Consumers Association: “In 2000, cleaning products were responsible for nearly 10% of all toxic exposures reported to U.S. Poison Control Centers, accounting for 206,636 calls.” Cleaning products provide us with a range of health concerns. Some cause hazards such as skin or respiratory irritation, watery eyes, or chemical burns, while others are linked with chronic or long-term effects.

Our transition to naturally derived, plant-based cleaning will provide a safer alternative, contributing to long-term health and wellness. More information about this product can be found at www.youngliving.com.  It is also available for sale at Body Edge Fitness. Body Edge Fitness also aims to educate the general public and their clients by offering monthly classes. The next ‘Live Less Toxic’ class will be held on Wednesday, March 30th, 6pm. Cost is $10. To register, please call 910-575-0975 to reserve a spot.
